3nd Year MSc Hydrology
Calibration and validation of a selected yield model for sugar beet and sugarcane
I was born in the North West and I spend most of my childhood days there. I moved to Gauteng in my teen years and I still reside there. I have good sense of humour, I am a no nonsense kind of guy, I love thrills (fast rollercoasters, bungee jumping, next on my list is skydiving, horror movies don’t scare me so that does not cut it), I love church, I enjoy exercising, I love the outdoors and enjoy travelling.
Globally there is a lot of pressure being exerted on water resources thus leading to increased scarcity and pollution of this valuable resource. Thus for me anything that has to do with managing water resources interests me. In particular, I enjoy using tools such as GIS, hydrological models and yield models (such as the one I am using in my MSc) to try and quantify water use (e.g. biofuel crops). I enjoy doing field work rather than setting in the office the whole day, although there needs to be a balance. I dread field work on “super-hot” days but as they say there is much “fun under the sun”. I also have a keen interest in design flood estimations.
