The only certainty in water resources management is that practitioners are required to make sane pragmatic operational and planning decisions under highly variable climatic conditions with a paucity of observed hydrological data. In addition to the many research questions raised in response to this need, there is a strong requirement to identify means by which research results and tools can be matured and migrated into hydrological practice in a way that benefits a broad spectrum of water users. With the increased availability of remote sensing data to complement in-situ observations, and readily available computing technologies, this is an exciting time to model and observe hydrological processes at new time and space scales.
The 18th SANCIAHS Symposium was held in Durban from 14-16 September 2016.
